Care Center Recognized for Antibiotic Stewardship

Knute Nelson is proud to announce the achievement of Gold Level status with the Minnesota Department of Health for antibiotic stewardship at their Care Center campus.

Antibiotic stewardship is improving the use of antibiotics to prevent antibiotic resistance. Stewardship focuses on using antibiotics only when needed. The CDC estimates that 2 million people acquire resistant infections yearly in the U.S., and 23,000 die as a result.

Gold level facilities are recognized for looking beyond their facility to practice antibiotic stewardship in a formal collaborative way.

Knute Nelson achieved this recognition by holding quarterly meetings to review antibiotic use with their medical director and consulting pharmacist. Findings are then delivered to the clinic so further education can be provided to prescribing providers. Knute Nelson also collaborates with home care agencies and has developed processes to prevent unnecessary use of antibiotics.
