Our Holistic Approach to Memory Care at Knute Nelson
A family’s journey to find compassionate care
For loved ones and family members alike, choosing the right care for individuals with dementia or other forms of memory loss is all about balance. That’s why at Knute Nelson, we bring tailored care to each resident within our memory care assisted living communities.
As a testament to the quality of our specialized assisted living care for those with memory loss, we are eager to share Rebecca Tormanen’s story. After entrusting her Uncle Robbin‘s well-being to our Knute Nelson family, Rebecca noticed dramatic positive changes that redefined her perspective of memory care.
For Rebecca, these changes meant that Robbin could enjoy each day with greater fullness and intention. “You can see it in his face and his eyes… He has just blossomed! Life at Knute Nelson is good for Robbin.”
Seeking Out Trusted Local Memory Care
At the time of his wife’s passing, Robbin was living in Washington State. For Rebecca and her husband, the distance quickly became a logistical challenge to ensure quality care. “We tried to care for him from here over to Washington, all those miles. The care was not like he has here.”
As Rebecca’s concerns grew, the decision to move Robbin closer to home became clear. From there, she needed to choose the right care community for his unique circumstances. Fortunately, several of her family members had positive experiences with Knute Nelson.
Despite her existing impressions, she had yet to discover what assisted living for those with memory loss at Knute Nelson would mean for Robbin.
Going Beyond Traditional Memory Care
Although Robbin had been receiving care in Washington, Rebecca sensed that the activities were limited. Only after the shift to Knute Nelson could she see the full range of life enrichment opportunities for those with memory loss. “They have so many things for him to do… He hasn’t engaged like that for years. This means a lot because he usually would just sit in his room.”
Through our specialized services, 24/7 on-site staff, and regular activities including crafts, exercise, field trips, and more, we bring out the best in each resident. It wasn’t long until Rebecca began to notice a marked difference in Robbin. “He has definitely been pulled out of his shell, and he interacts with people way more than he has for a few years.”
Reflecting on Her Decision with Confidence
When a loved one is in need of specialized care for memory loss, trust is the difference between peace of mind and constant worry for families. With Robbin in our compassionate community, Rebecca feels empowered to live her life to the fullest and even travel knowing her beloved uncle is in good hands. “We feel confident knowing that if we're gone even for a week on vacation, he will definitely be very well taken care of.”
Meanwhile, our community is just a short drive away. During visits, Rebecca finds assurance in the beautiful landscaping, tranquil indoor spaces, and kindhearted staff surrounding Robbin.
Bridging the Gap for Families
As you consider memory care, we recognize the uncertainty that follows suit. Here’s what Rebecca would say to someone feeling nervous about the road ahead for a loved one. “They’re being taken care of, and people are interacting with them. People are caring for them when you can’t. It’s all good, and it’s nothing to be worried about.”
Her statement goes beyond words alone by embodying the care and dedication of our Knute Nelson staff. This level of trust inspires us each day to cherish and engage residents as if they’re surrounded by the comfort and care of family.
