Knute Nelson residents are on a mission

You’re probably wondering—what are Knute Nelson residents up to these days? The visitor restrictions to keep our residents and staff safe during COVID-19 are still in place and are proving effective. However, day-to-day life and activities look different for all of us!

Today I’d like to share with you how a group of residents at Grand Arbor are finding purpose in a project of huge importance to our community.

The above photo represents some of the amazing Grand Arbor residents who have been hard at work cutting, sewing, and assembling reusable face masks for the Alexandria community.

Laura Kremer, Life Enhancement Coordinator at Grand Arbor, has been able to witness this volunteer effort first-hand.

“It has been pretty phenomenal,” Laura said. “And the residents are so proud and so honored to be able to help in this way. Given the situation, many have felt isolated or almost helpless and this has given them a way to help the community. They are really honored to be able to help.”

The best part is—having the ability to sew is not required for residents to help! Many have pitched in to measure elastic, cut fabric, and pin materials in place. In this time of uncertainty, residents have felt pride and purpose contributing to this mask-making project.

To date, Grand Arbor residents have made 1,614 masks for the community.
