One Man's Story of Rehabilitation After Surgery
Knute Nelson's Therapy Continuum
After a surgery, illness, or injury, navigating the road ahead can feel daunting. Progress and consistency may seem well out of reach. That’s why our Knute Nelson family created a specially designed therapy continuum for a seamless path to rehabilitation after surgery.
For David Kjos, the road to recovery meant relearning many of the everyday movements and activities that once came as second nature. After his leg amputation, his journey meant starting with the direction and dedication of our short-term rehab care team. In David’s experience, “Knute Nelson opened their arms to me, which really gave me confidence.”
Starting with Manageable Steps
While at short-term rehab, our highly-trained physical therapists began working with David while maintaining a cornerstone of communication.
From walking guidance to exercise adherence, our care team focused on making measurable progress toward the daily activities that David cherished. With caring attention to detail, our dedicated therapists helped David recognize the difference between the easy way and the right way, laying a foundation for healthier long-term movements.
After growing accustomed to his prosthetic leg, he was ready for home health care and eventually outpatient therapy. In the words of David, “I was recovering right here in short-term rehab. After that, I graduated to home health care, and eventually outpatient therapy. I really appreciate how much they helped me out.”
Rehabilitation After Surgery at Home
After a home safety assessment, our Knute Nelson Home Health Care team developed a personalized rehabilitation plan for David. Before long, he was back to enjoying the activities he once cherished from the comfort of home.
For David, “home health care was more convenient for me… I didn't have to go in when it's cold outside and get dressed up for it.” Just over a month earlier, the thought of golfing felt unreachable to David. With his personal goals at heart, our care team ensured he had the flexibility, balance, and confidence to get back out on the course.
Through his experience at home and through outpatient therapy, David discovered the professionalism and passion our Knute Nelson family is known for.
Building Enduring Relationships with Those We Serve
Whether through our short-term rehab, at-home services, or outpatient therapy, there’s a shared spirit of service, kindness, and respect among our care teams.
While maintaining transparency with family and loved ones, we strive to make each transition within our therapy continuum as seamless as possible. From David’s perspective, “it's all about the people… They challenged you too, which I really appreciated.”
