Therapeutic Music Impacts Residents in Memory Care
Jun 28, 2019 by Katie Cass
At first, Jack, a Knute Nelson memory care resident, sat back and listened to Sara Severson, as she provided therapeutic music with her song and guitar to him and his neighbors on a weekly basis.
That quickly changed as Sara learned of Jack’s musical talent and a past career as a music conductor. When Sara put a guitar pick in Jack’s fingers, Jack began to interact and pretend he was also strumming a guitar. These weeks, in addition to Sara’s voice and guitar, group therapeutic music sessions also include Jack as he uses his pick to strum on the guitar. The group interaction is creating a wonderful experience for Jack, Sara and all of Jack’s neighbors at Knute Nelson.
