What is Home Health Care by Knute Nelson Really Like?
While it’s necessary to understand the fundamentals of our home health care services, you don’t truly get a sense of what home care is like until you hear other people’s experiences.
Samantha Lindquist, a Knute Nelson home health care client, was in a farm tractor rollover accident that resulted in her losing her right arm, breaking her right hip and forever changing her lifestyle. Before her accident, Samantha was an extremely active, outdoor-centric mother of two. From skiing and fishing to building houses, she was used to constantly being on her feet and using two hands.
After her accident, though, Samantha found herself needing assistance with activities of daily living and having to figure out how to do things again – except this time, with one hand. This is where Knute Nelson’s home health care services came into play.
“Knowing places that do home therapy, I know that Knute Nelson does a great job,” Samantha said. “They stand by their services, and so I was able to receive physical and occupational therapy at home.”
For Samantha, the goal was to get back on her feet and return to living life as independently as possible. Her therapists assessed Samantha’s challenges and focused on getting her back to doing everyday activities, one step at a time. As Samantha relearned activities like putting on a coat, cooking and holding a fishing pole, her physical and occupational therapists would watch her movements, correct them and work with her until the movements came more naturally again.
“The therapist that I had, Janell, she was amazing. She was like eyeballing and critiquing and watching for all these little pieces of it to make sure that no, you're not firing this correctly or no, you need to do it this way,” Samantha explained. “Her passion of her therapy was unique, I've never seen anything like it, and I've been in healthcare for a long time.”
Samantha’s therapists focused on putting each tiny piece of a movement together, helping Samantha progress at the pace she was comfortable with. Knute Nelson’s home health care team was able to help Samantha relearn everyday movements and turn them into habits and skills she’ll be able to use to live an independent, active lifestyle again.
“Both Janell and my occupational therapist, Renee, like working to not so much give me tools to work through things, but to make me focus on the little pieces to make sure that I'm doing it right so that it's there for the long term of dealing with my new lifestyle,” Samantha said.
