Knute Nelson volunteers lend their helping hands in many capacities throughout our organization and we welcome you to join us! The mission of Knute Nelson volunteers is to enhance, through volunteer efforts, the quality of life of individuals served by Knute Nelson. There are many volunteer opportunities throughout our housing communities as well as hospice volunteer opportunities. Continue reading to learn more.
Housing Community Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in volunteering? There are numerous volunteer opportunities that you can get involved in the West Central Minnesota area. We can work with you to find opportunities that suit your interests and availability. Some volunteer activities might include:

Hospice Volunteer Opportunities
It’s been said many times that “volunteers are the heart of hospice,” and it couldn’t be more true. Hospice volunteers are an integral part of our team and are invaluable assets to our patients, families, and staff. There are numerous ways that you can get involved. We can work with you to find opportunities that suit your interests and availability. Knute Nelson offers extensive training and support to all of our hospice volunteers. View some of our opportunities below:
Companionship
Visiting, writing letters, playing cards or board games, going on walks or other outings, and providing emotional support.
Complementary Care
For volunteers with experience and interest in music or singing; massage, aromatherapy or other complementary therapies.
Eleventh Hour
Upon request from the patient and family, provide quiet companionship during the last anticipated 24-48 hours of a patient’s life.
Bereavement Care
Assist with mailings, make follow up phone calls, help set up refreshments and materials for support groups, and help with bereavement related events.
Homemaking
Household chores, shopping assistance, meal preparation, light housekeeping, child care, pet care, and yard work.
Office and Administrative
Assist with mailings, assembling admission packets, and doing other projects as needed in the hospice office.
Events
Help with events hosted by or benefiting the Knute Nelson hospice program.
